POETRY: Coastal Contemplation

Coastal Contemplation (Drowning Truth)

As he looked across the coast,

He could only see one thing,

His mother on a sailing boat,

Driven by the wind.

How he longed to take the leap,

Into the depths below,

Face the truth that is his fear,

And then let his mother go.

As he looked across the coast,

He could hear his mother’s laugh,

Her words, “I love you, the most!”

And her footsteps up the path.

How he longed to take her hand,

And look her in the eye,

Face the truth and take a stand,

And say to her, “Good-bye”.

This is the most beautiful thing.

It’s so thought provoking and emotional. Stunning. Well done.

    • Jody Dontje says:

      Hi,

Thank-you so much sweetheart! That means a lot. I wanted to create a piece that was full of double meanings, and that was evocative, in order to portray the emotions accompanying the protagonists contemplation.

      Sincerely Jody
